COLTS has temporary solutions for students who live in the South Side of Scranton and are attending West Scranton High School this year.
Students who live in the area around Kennedy School can catch the #99 Minooka/Montage bus at the corner of Davis Street and Pittston Avenue at 7 a.m. This will take the students right down to the Lackawanna Transit Center, where they can go to Bay 1 to transfer to the #31 Old Forge bus at 7:15 a.m. This will take them North Main Ave., where they will arrive at the corner of Main and Luzerne St. by Fidelity Bank, around 7:25 a.m. (There will be stops all along the route.)
Students who live in the area around McNichols Plaza can take the #42 Olive/Providence bus that leaves Valley View Terrace at 7 a.m. The bus will stop along South Webster Ave. on its way to the Lackawanna Transit Center. Students can then transfer to the #31 Old Forge bus at 7:15 a.m. This will take them up North Main Ave. where they will arrive at the corner of North Main Ave. and Luzerne St. by Fidelity Bank around 7:25 a.m. (There will be stops all along the route.)
In the afternoon, students can take the #31 Old Forge bus inbound to Scranton by waiting across from Fidelity Bank at Fellows Park. There is a crossing guard at that corner to assist the students.
When they arrive at the Transit Center, they can transfer to either the #28 Pittston (which travels along Pittston Avenue) at 3:15 p.m. or the #25 Valley View/Hilltop (which goes up South Webster Ave.) at 3:35 p.m.
This is a temporary solution while COLTS explores other transportation options. Please be on the lookout for an update to the current #42 Olive/Providence that will serve students at both Scranton High School and West Scranton High School.
Until further notice, the #31 Old Forge will use the following detour due to the road closure on Lonesome Road:
Regular route to Lonesome Road and Bridge St.
Follow to regular route to Bridge and Drakes Lane.
Go left on Drakes Lane, right on Center St., right on Bowman, and make a right back on Bridge St.
The bus will lay over in front of the church at the end of the line, and then follow the detour back to Lonesome Road and on to regular route.
All COLTS passes can be used here in Lackawanna County and on Luzerne County buses. All LCTA passes can be used in both counties as well. The two transit agencies are encouraging seamless travel for riders between the two neighboring counties.
COLTS’ will change the cost of its monthly pass to $60 effective July 1 and make it an Intercounty Pass. COLTS will also accept all other LCTA passes, and vice versa.
